Rare 1920s Silk Velvet Flapper Dress with Embroidered Medallion

Rich russet red silk velvet with the deep, liquid sheen that makes vintage silk velvet so sought after. The V-neckline is edged in a band of metallic and silk-embroidered trim in blue, coral and silver. A hand-embroidered medallion sits at the center front, worked in rose and periwinkle silk floss and gold metallic thread over net. A shirred, ruched panel at the hips adds the sculpted drop-waist shape of the era, and the hem falls into long handkerchief points that sway when you dance. The trim carries around the low scooped back. Remarkable condition for its age, with the velvet pile still full and lustrous. Slips on over the head. Perfect for the holiday season. Clean and ready to wear.
