Exceptional 1950s party dress in crisp cotton chintz printed with a lush bucolic floral — full-blown roses, peonies, tulips, and garden botanicals in tobacco, mauve, mustard, teal, and sky blue on an ivory ground, the scale and painterly quality of the print strongly evocative of 18th-century toile and copperplate textile traditions. The silhouette is a textbook New Look full-skirted cocktail dress: bateau neckline trimmed with a smart band of forest green silk or taffeta, fitted and boned bodice, dramatically full box-pleated skirt that would have been worn over crinolines. Center back zip with matching green zip pull. The green neckline trim is a particularly sharp design detail, anchoring the whole palette.
