A rare, one of a kind show-stopper from the 1960's, this Sara Fredericks ivory aurora borealis sequin gown is the epitome of mid century glam. The body is constructed entirely of open sequined lattice work, while a fitted illusion lining beneath gives the illusion of the sequins floating against skin. The silhouette is sleek and fitted through the torso, shaped by princess seams, then releases at the hem into a lavish sweep of ivory feather trim. A hint of a sweetheart neckline under the sequins. The back falls freely from the shoulders in a soft Watteau drape, closing with the original center back zipper. The perfect gown for a wedding, gala or performance. In excellent condition, freshly cleaned and ready to wear. 

*Sara Fredericks opened her first small dress shop on Newbury Street in Boston in 1934, and by the 1950s was traveling to Europe twice a year — as well as to New York and California — to source her stock. Her shops carried some of the most celebrated names in American and European fashion, including Pauline Trigère, Geoffrey Beene, James Galanos, Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, Bob Mackie, and Hubert de Givenchy, as well as Chanel and Chloé.  She also commissioned designers, including Richard Tam and Ferdinand Sarmi, to create pieces under her own label. At her peak, Fredericks operated branches in luxury hotels and upscale resort towns, expanding to ten shops by 1967. She sold the salons in 1983 but remained president until her death in 1986, and the company closed in 1993. Pieces with her label were either custom made for her salon or designer pieces with the labels removed and replaced with her label.
