Rare 1930's NRA Labeled Navy Crepe Dress With Soutache Sleeves / M
👋 A B O U T
Super rare early 30's dress with gorgeous handwork: the yoke and cap sleeves are built entirely from soutache cording, looped and coiled into a dense openwork lattice over sheer net, giving the shoulders a sculptural, filigree effect. The bodice gathers softly at the shoulders into a fluid bias-cut skirt with a subtle asymmetrical hip seam. The back closes with tiny mother-of-pearl buttons trailing from the nape, echoing the cording above. Inside, the dress retains its original National Recovery Act (NRA) label — a rare and precise dating marker. Snaps up the side. In excellent condition, freshly cleaned and ready to wear.
A special note on the NRA label: The National Recovery Administration was a New Deal agency launched under FDR in 1933 to help pull the country out of the Depression. Manufacturers who complied with its labor codes on wages and hours could stitch the agency’s blue eagle emblem into their garments. The Supreme Court struck down the NRA in 1935 — so any piece bearing this label was made within that narrow 1933–1935 window, a small but tangible fragment of Depression-era labor history.
