1950s Bramson Silk Dress & Cashmere Coat Ensemble | Convertible Shawl-to-Hood Collar | Full Silk Lining

The epitome of luxury in 1950s ensemble dressing — this dress-and-coat set pairs a fit and flare silk dress in pale oyster with a swing-cut camel color cashmere coat whose dramatic shawl collar transforms into a hood, all fully lined in matching silk. Sold originally by Bramson, the storied specialty retailer with locations in Oak Park, Evanston, Chicago, and Palm Beach — the kind of shop that stocked serious, investment-grade designer fashion for an elite clientele.

The dress is cut from silk with a fine horizontal rib, fitted through the bodice with a jewel neckline, softly rounded sleeves, and a row of fabric-covered buttons running the length of the bodice and skirt. The waist is cinched with a slim self-belt tied in a bow, and the back is architected with princess seams releasing into deep box pleats for movement — a hallmark of superior 1950s dressmaking, prioritizing shape without sacrificing ease.

The coat is the real showstopper: swingy, A-line, in camel colored buttery soft cashmere , with dramatic bracelet-length bell sleeves and a gathered shawl collar that can be worn open and draped, or folded up into a soft, ivory silk-lined hood — a rare and wonderfully practical design flourish. A single oversized button closure sits at the yoke, and the coat opens to reveal the same silk lining used in the dress, unifying the set from the outside in. 

Impossibly glamorous, one of the finest sets I have ever featured! 

In overall very good condition, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear.

Condition:  overall excellent , freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. Minor signs of wear typical of age including some very faint water lines in skirt and minor discoloration at the underarms. The coat lining has a minor wear at the back of the neck and a few tiny nibbles in the cashmere, that hide well in the fullness of the fabric. Tragically the dress is missing its top button. Flaws are only seen upon close inspection and do not detract from the beauty of the set.  See close up pictures. Wears and presents beautifully.
