1950s Hand-Painted Mexican Circle Skirt with Sequin Detail
A stunning example of the hand-painted circle skirts produced in Mexico during the 1950s tourist trade, this piece is worked in a natural, undyed cotton with a soft heathered texture. Large-scale blossoms in violet, gold, teal, and chartreuse are hand-painted across the hem in a sweeping garland motif, each petal outlined in black and finished with hand-applied silver sequins that trace the floral outlines and scatter as an allover dot pattern across the fabric. Fully circular cut for dramatic swing and movement, with original metal zipper and a fitted waistband. A wonderful example of Mexican folk-art tourist wear at its most fabulous. In overall excellent condition, freshly cleaned and ready to wear.
