A stunning two-piece resort ensemble from Pauline Lake’s couture salon at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Honolulu, circa mid-1950s. The set pairs a strapless full-skirted dress with a cropped bolero jacket cut from the same vibrantly printed cotton — a bold botanical design rendered in chartreuse green, teal, indigo, and cream, with large stylized tropical leaves and flowers set against a geometric trellis ground. The print reads with the layered complexity of a batik-influenced screen print, characteristic of the finest Hawaiian resort cottons of the period.
The strapless bodice is structured with an internal boned foundation and straight neckline; the skirt falls in a sweeping full circle. The bolero features a deep navy cotton facing at the collar and lapels — a deliberate contrast detail that anchors the palette and gives the jacket a tailored finish unusual for resort wear of this type. Zips up the side with original metal zipper. 

Pauline Lake operated her couture atelier within the Royal Hawaiian Hotel — Waikiki’s legendary “Pink Palace” — from the 1950s through the 1960s, dressing the hotel’s wealthy international clientele in made-to-order pieces that fused Polynesian textile traditions with European couture construction.
