A striking topper hat by John Frederics of New York, one of the most celebrated American milliners of the mid-20th century, known for dressing Hollywood stars and high society clients alike. This pillbox-style hat is fashioned from plush striped fur felt — the pile radiating in a dramatic swirl pattern from the crown — giving it a bold, sculptural presence. A black grosgrain ribbon trims the edge and forms the interior band, while a fine black veil netting trimmed in satin ribbon sweeps across the front, ready to be worn up or down over the face.

John Frederics hats are featured in The Metropolitan museum's costume institute and are highly sought after.
