A show-stopping evening gown in vermillion red silk crepe from Jacqueline de Ribes, made expressly for Saks Fifth Avenue — a label the Countess secured as her primary American retail partner at the height of her fashion house’s success in the early 1980s. The design is pure de Ribes: a sleek, body-skimming silhouette cut for maximum drama, with deeply sculpted open back, front center slit, and her signature theatrical sleeves — here rendered as dramatic draped wings, knotted at the shoulder and falling open at the  low back. Interior fully lined in silk. Couture details include hand stitching and finishes. Zips up the back with original zipper. In overall excellent condition. 

Jacqueline de Ribes (1929–2025) was the undisputed embodiment of Parisian elegance — a French countess, couturière, and perennial fixture on the International Best Dressed List who Town & Country declared “the most stylish woman in the world” in 1983. A muse to Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, and Oleg Cassini before launching her own couture house in the early 1980s, de Ribes dressed icons from Joan Collins to Raquel Welch and earned the nickname “the last queen of Paris.” In 2015, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute honored her with a solo retrospective. This is a fantastic example of her work.

Condition:  overall excellent, freshly cleaned and ready to wear. Minor signs of wear typical of age. A couple faint spots to mention, one tiny pin size mark on the front of the bodice, and a small smudge on the back of the skirt below the knee. Only noticed upon close scrutiny. Wears and presents just like the photos. See close up pictures.
