Absolutely spectacular 1950's party dress in shimmering steel blue. The bodice of this dress stops traffic before the skirt even registers — an architectural feat of chevron pleating that fans upward into dramatic flame-points along the sweetheart edge, as if the fabric itself is catching fire. The steel blue taffeta shifts from slate to silver depending on the light, lending the whole dress an almost mercurial quality.
Below a ruched waistband, the full-circle skirt billows with that distinctly mid-decade exuberance — stiff, rustling, and gloriously voluminous. The construction throughout speaks to serious dressmaking: the pleating is precise and symmetrical front and back, the waist treatment controlled and elegant. Zips up the side with original metal zipper.
