Rare 1940's Adele Simpson Picasso Inspired Abstract Face Print Dress / M
š A B O U T
A rare offering from my personal collection. I have held onto this particular dress for over a decade, and after much deliberation have decided to finally let it go. As a former art student this piece really spoke to me. Made in the late 1940's by influential designer Adele Simpson out of a wonderful silk twill, it features a Picasso influenced abstract face print, reminiscent of his African mask period of work.
The dress features an unusual and inventive front hook and eye closure that covers a hidden metal zipper. The neckline is deep and plunging with three black buttons at the center. The skirt is fitted and cut on the bias giving it some stretch. Two deep pockets at the sides of the hips. In excellent condition, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. A rare investment piece, with historical context in art and fashion design.Ā
