Rare and museum worthy 1920's robe de style evening dress in metallic silver lame’ and silver lace with a grape motif. Inspired by the work of Jeanne Lanvin who offered an alternative and more traditionally feminine silhouette to the boxy flapper style dress that was popular at the time. Similar to dresses designed by the legendary boué soeurs , our robe de style features a long fitted drop waist bodice attached to a broad skirt with hips bolstered by metal panniers. The sides are composed of the most exquisite metallic lace depicting grapes and foliage. Rhinestone buttons decorate the back. The interior features a silk under bodice that snaps up the front. The skirt is lined with delicate tissue silk and lace. The panniers are individually lined in silk. Sold at Livingston Bros. in San Francisco but no doubt imported from France. A wearable piece of fashion history in remarkably good condition for age. Please see our condition report.

Condition: Very good for age. Structurally sound and completely wearable. Oxidation has occurred on parts of the lame fabric. We added period correct metallic silver lace to camouflage the darkest areas of oxidation at the shoulders, it has been tacked on by our seamstress but could easily be removed if you prefer. I have included a "before" picture without the lace so you can decide for yourself.  Being over 100 years old the interior lining has dulled in color with age and exposure to metal fabric. The interior silk chiffon slip has some small holes and breaks in the skirt. Not at all visible when worn. Wears and presents stunningly and would make an incredible display.
