Jean Paul Gaultier Maille Classique Black Knit Open-Back Dress, 1990s

A sleek little black dress from Jean Paul Gaultier's Maille Classique knitwear line, made in Italy by Fuzzi, the Marignano knit house behind Gaultier's stretch jerseys and bodycon pieces. The body-skimming viscose knit has a fine vertical rib and a soft, liquid sheen. The scoop neckline is bound in a self-fabric band, a vertical seam runs down the center front. 

The back is the showpiece. Slender straps cross in an X between the shoulder blades and drop into a long center-back strap, finished with a small bar detail above the waist. It's pure Gaultier: clean, architectural and sexy, with the construction doing all the work. In excellent condition, freshly cleaned and ready to wear.
