This extraordinary early 1970’s coat by Salvatore Ferragamo exemplifies the impeccable craftsmanship and understated luxury that defined the Florentine house during the mid-20th century. Crafted in a richly textured wool tweed in a palette of russet, ochre, cinnamon, and cream, the weave creates a dynamic check that beautifully captures the earthy sophistication of the era. 

The coat features a sharply tailored silhouette with a wide notched lapel, lightly padded shoulders, and a gently flared skirt, lending both structure and movement. Two oversized flap pockets accent the hips, adding balance and functionality to the design. The interior is fully lined in a stunning iridescent copper taffeta. I have styled the coat with a thin leather belt that is not original to the coat, but that I will include with purchase. There are hidden metal snaps that close the front of the coat. 

The coat retains its original Salvatore Ferragamo – Florence, Italy label, alongside the American retailer’s label from The Higbee Company—a prestigious Cleveland department store known for offering high-end European imports. A rare example of Ferragamo’s ready-to-wear tailoring from this period—when the house was still primarily renowned for its footwear and accessories.
