This extraordinary three-piece evening ensemble by Werlé of Beverly Hills exemplifies the refined glamour and couture-level craftsmanship that made the California design house a favorite among Hollywood’s elite during the 1950s.

Composed of a strapless boned bodice, a full sweeping circle skirt, and a matching bolero, the ensemble is a masterclass in mid-century evening elegance. The bodice is fashioned from blush pink silk satin, diagonally ruched and embellished with hand-applied pearls and iridescent sequins that shimmer subtly with movement. The meticulous interior structure—complete with multiple rows of interior boning and a waist stay—demonstrates the house’s couture-inspired construction techniques.

The voluminous skirt, rendered in smoky gray silk taffeta, falls from a narrow waistband into deep gathered folds, creating a dramatic New Look silhouette evocative of Dior’s postwar hourglass ideal. The interior of the skirt is backed in tulle and lined in matching pink silk. Side pockets are added for convenience. The coordinating cropped bolero, lined in pink silk to match the bodice, features softly ruched sleeves that frame the shoulders and add sculptural drama to the ensemble.

In overall excellent condition, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear.

Condition: overall excellent, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. Minor signs of wear typical of age. The back of the bustier was altered at some point to make it a bit larger. Some faint spots on the skirt, hide well in the folds and pleats. Wears and presents beautifully.
