Absolutely exquisite antique Chinese robe from the 1920’s. Crafted from lustrous black silk and fully lined in blue silk, it features an array of auspicious motifs meticulously worked in vibrant silk floss.

Peonies—symbols of wealth and honor—bloom alongside butterflies, double fish, and intricate “Eight Treasures” emblems representing joy, harmony, and prosperity. The wide sleeves are bordered with detailed figural scenes and scrolling floral bands, showcasing exceptional satin-stitch and Peking-knot embroidery executed in jewel-like shades of coral, jade, cobalt, and ivory.

The robe’s elegant T-shaped silhouette and traditional frog closures reflect the Manchu-influenced court styles of the late 19th century, while its opulent decoration and luxurious materials suggest it was made for a woman of high social rank or as part of a wedding trousseau.

A museum-quality textile, this robe stands as a testament to the mastery of Chinese silk artisans from the great embroidery centers of Suzhou or Canton, where such works were created both for the domestic elite and for the export market. 

In excellent condition, looks to have never been worn.
