Rare and museum worthy black silk "pop over" dress by famed designer Claire McCardell. I believe this one dates to around 1955, as there is a colorful version of this  same dress seen on the 1955 cover of Life Magazine. This ingenious design wraps around the body and closes with a series of brass rivets up the side. A flattering v-shaped panel in the front and belt loops to hold what was originally a matching sash. Hidden pockets in the skirt.

Total length 41", with a 5 inch hem that could be let down if wanted.

Condition: Excellent, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. Missing original sash, however we found a black silk sash that we will include with the purchase.
