A rare and exquisite example of early 20th-century handwork, this antique black silk crochet robe embodies the sultry elegance and craftsmanship of the 1910s–1920s era. Entirely hand-crocheted from lustrous black silk thread, the robe is designed in an openwork geometric pattern that hugs the body before falling into a cascade of long, fluid fringe. The silhouette is elongated and sinuous, with a narrow waist and sweeping hem that moves beautifully with the wearer. Long sleeves end in matching fringe, while the open front drapes gracefully, emphasizing the supple sheen of the silk. A hidden series of snaps close up the front. 

Lightweight yet dramatic, this robe would have been worn over a slip or evening dress for a layered effect, or today as an extraordinary statement piece over a slip dress. A rare survivor in excellent condition, it showcases the artistry and sensual sophistication of antique silk crochet work — as wearable as it is collectible.
