An exquisite creation from Hattie Carnegie’s mid-century atelier, this 1955 evening dress exemplifies the refined glamour and expert craftsmanship of the era. Fashioned from luminous ivory silk satin, it is adorned with an elegant black flocked velvet floral motif, giving the surface a sumptuous, tactile dimension reminiscent of French couture textiles of the 1950s.

The strapless boned bodice is impeccably tailored to create a sculpted hourglass silhouette. Covered buttons down the front, drawing the eye to the gracefully draped hipline where the fabric gathers into a softly formed bow. The skirt flares into a full tea-length silhouette, falling in voluminous folds that capture the romantic spirit of Dior’s New Look.

Inside, the gown reveals the signature quality of the Carnegie workroom—silk lining, inner grosgrain waist stay, and extensive boning for structure and fit. The Hattie Carnegie label corresponds to the house’s mid-1950s period, when her designs reflected Dior's  celebration of femininity.
