A dramatic, sculptural Deco-era brooch in glossy black Bakelite, with a carved cameo portrait of a woman in profile. She wears a fluted, feathered diadem, curled hair, a strand of beads and a draped, ornamented bodice. The cameo sits in a pierced four-lobed frame with flared, faceted arms at the four points, so it reads as a Victorian mourning-style jewel reworked in a modern plastic. The carving is crisp and the polish is deep. It pins on easily and works on a lapel, a scarf or a knit.
