A gorgeous example 1930s bias-cut engineering — this gown skims the body through a series of intricate, hand-worked pin-tucks that fan out from the hip in sharp chevron lines, echoing the era’s fascination with Art Deco geometry rendered in soft, matte rayon crêpe. The wide v-neckline and cap sleeves draw the eye upward, while the fitted bodice releases at the low hip into a dramatically full, floor-length skirt — a silhouette built entirely through bias cutting and the discipline of those radiating tucks, with no boning or structural aids to shape it. Zips up the back with original metal zipper. In very good condition, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. 

The label places this within the short-lived but influential Fashion Originators’ Guild of America, formed in 1932 to combat the rampant knock-off industry by certifying garments as protected original designs. The Guild was effectively dissolved by a 1941 Supreme Court antitrust ruling, so labels like this one are a narrow, specific window — generally late 1930s into 1940.

Condition: very good overall, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. Minor signs of wear typical of age including light fading along the shoulders, minor press shine from an over zealous iron, and subtle very faint discoloration typical of this type of rayon. Wears and presents beautifully!
