1940s Rayon Crêpe Evening Suit with Metallic Floral Embroidery

An elegant 1940's two-piece suit in black rayon crêpe, its fitted jacket boasting elaborate hand-embroidered floral sprays that run down each side of the closure — sequined blossoms in blush pink, gold, and pale green, centered with red glass beads, on stems worked in gold metallic soutache and bullion thread. The nipped waist, gently padded shoulders, and V-neckline give the jacket a sculpted, dressmaker-suit silhouette very much in the spirit of Schiaparelli's embellished dinner jackets of the period. It closes edge-to-edge with a long row of small black glass buttons. The matching A-line skirt is simple and unadorned, with original zipper up the side, letting the embroidery carry the design. In overall excellent condition, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear.

Condition: excellent overall with minor signs of wear typical of age. The skirt has some   faint reddish fading in the front and and there are shine marks from an over zealous dry cleaner. Only noticed upon close inspection. See close up pictures. Wears and presents beautifully.
