Lovely Antique Embroidered Handbag Crafted By Maud Hundley
A B O U T
A rare and extraordinary vintage embroidered hand bag, labeled "Maud Hundley, Anchorage, KY". Maud Hundley was a renowned Kentucky artisan started her hand made handbag company from home in 1947 creating one of a kind bags from antique needlepoint and embroidery pieces. Her work is rare and sought after. I have found a few over the years but this one is by far the most interesting.
The front panel features a breathtaking silk thread landscape scene depicting two elegant ladies in 18th-century court dress promenading in a formal garden, surrounded by roses, topiaries, and a misty lakeside backdrop. The embroidery is executed in fine satin stitch with remarkable dimensional detail — note the raised petticoats, feathered parasol, and individually worked pink rosebuds. The back of the bag is covered in chartreuse green embroidery with a gilt brass kiss-lock frame, ornate filigree clasp, and silver-tone chain strap. The interior is lined in rich green gold satin with interior pockets. In excellent condition, a rare and highly collectible piece.
