When I received this dress from a seller I was so excited! Besides being just incredibly gorgeous and festive for the holiday season it had a Pierre Balmain label! I couldn't believe it! Well, sometimes things just seem to be too good to be true. I decided to research Balmain labels and discovered the label in my 50's dress was most likely from the 1980's. So I suspect someone may have added it later, either to replace a missing label or to increase the value. I have no idea. 

Regardless of this unfortunate situation the dress itself is still absolutely, heart stoppingly gorgeous. Definitely high end late 50's designer. Hand finished details and luxurious silk. Decorated with soutache and featuring a silk satin pink bow. I found a union label inside the skirt that dates it to the 50's. This dress was let out at a certain point to be made a little larger. So what I wonder is perhaps this dress was a Balmain adaptation for the US market? I have no idea. Either way it is the perfect holiday party dress in overall excellent condition. Freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear.

Label: labeled Pierre Balmain but not authenticated. I suspect the label was added later. Priced accordingly. See details in description. 

Material: silk taffeta

Condition: Overall excellent, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. Let out at the sides to fit current size. Minor signs of wear typical of age. Wears and presents beautifully.
