A striking example of the asymmetric tilt hats that defined 1930s millinery — a tightly woven burnt sienna straw braid, molded into a close, helmet-like crown with a dramatic angled brim swept up and over to one side. The effect is architectural rather than decorative: the hat sits low and snug, framing the face at a rakish angle in the way stylish women wore hats through the mid-to-late '30s, tilted forward and to the side rather than centered. A cluster of grosgrain ribbon bows in matching burnt sienna and a contrasting green sits at the crown, crossed and layered for textural interest against the smooth straw. In excellent condition.

Label: Inside, the hat carries a Consumers Protection Label reading "Manufactured Under Fair Labor Standards" — a label issued by the National Coat & Suit Recovery Board, successor to the NRA's Blue Eagle code label after the National Recovery Act was ruled unconstitutional in 1935. The label was used industry-wide from 1935 into the late 1930s (and sporadically beyond), placing this piece confidently in the mid-to-late 1930s rather than earlier in the decade.
