This exquisite 1950's couture cocktail dress exemplifies the opulence and sculptural elegance of the era. Crafted in a sumptuous silk satin with a richly textured flocked velvet rose motif in russet, cocoa, and deep chestnut, the fabric itself is a work of art—combining shimmer with dimension to striking effect.

The bodice features a deeply cut portrait neckline, framed by short sleeves and defined by an intricately ruched and knotted front detail that enhances the bustline in true mid-century fashion. A nipped waist gives way to a lavishly full pleated skirt, creating the dramatic silhouette so prized in the post-Dior “New Look” decade. The interior of the skirt is lined in black silk organza, and the skirt dips dramatically lower in the back. The bodice is lined in black opaque silk and a grosgrain ribbon cinches the waist. 

 The silhouette and detailing closely echo the celebrated creations of Christian Dior, particularly his iconic “New Look” lines. I have my suspicions that this dress might be an actual dress by Dior based on similar designs I’ve seen online. The fabric was even reproduced by Suzy Perette in cotton and it's well known that Suzy Perette had a business arrangement with Dior allowing copies of their designs to be made for the American market. I have included photos illustrating the similarities. One showing an almost identical documented Dior dress from 1958 and a photo of the same print being used on a Suzy Perette dress. That being said, the one I’m selling does not have a label so I can’t prove the provenance.

In excellent condition, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. Little to no signs of visible wear.
