An extraordinary creation from the early 1950s, this silk evening gown from the estate of Luna Karbo — a celebrated Hollywood seamstress — exemplifies the grace, drama, and precision craftsmanship of midcentury couture.

The gown is fashioned from black silk taffeta, its voluminous ballet length skirt sweeping into a dramatic full circle silhouette that evokes the grand glamour of Dior’s New Look. The bodice, a masterpiece of design, features an intricately worked ivory lace overlay delicately accented with rhinestones, lending a soft shimmer under evening light. The lace forms a deep V neckline both front and back, framing the shoulders and décolletage with sculptural femininity. At the waist, panels of black silk are artfully draped and crossed to create a cinched, sculptural midsection that defines the hourglass form. The back reveals a spectacular construction: the black silk bands interlace to form a crisscross motif before extending into a lavish bow and cascading bustle, emphasizing the designer’s eye for theatrical proportion and finish. Zips up the side with original metal zipper. In excellent condition, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear.
