Rare 1960's James Galanos Two Piece Dress And Jacket Set / SM
A B O U T
This elegant vintage ensemble by James Galanos reflects the designer’s couture-level mastery of textiles and cut. Often hailed as the “American Balenciaga,” Galanos trained in Paris before establishing his Los Angeles atelier in 1951. By the 1960s and 1970s, he had become one of America’s most respected designers, known for his refined silhouettes and uncompromising craftsmanship.
The set features a sleeveless sheath dress with a bodice of midnight blue silk, woven with a delicate ivory floral motif. The subtle sheen of the silk contrasts beautifully with the matte texture of the woven wool skirt, which falls in softly tailored pleats for fluid structure. A matching jacket completes the ensemble, cut in a clean, tailored line and finished with ornate gilt rope-motif buttons. The jacket’s silhouette offers versatility, transitioning the look from polished daytime wear to evening elegance. Both dress and jacket are fully lined in silk, underscoring Galanos’s couture-level finishing. The dress zips up the side at the back of the shoulder. Both pieces are in excellent condition, freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear.
