Exceptionally rare 1950's Rosita Contreras Haute Couture silk evening gown. Very little is known today about this Italian couturier who created gowns for celebrities and wealthy socialites. What information I could find revealed she dressed Italian soprano  Reneta Tebaldi and some of her pieces were recently on display at the Rossini National Museum. 

This expertly hand crafted couture gown is truly a marvel to behold. It is heavy. It is structured. It is composed of multiple layers of silk to hold and sculpt the body. Intricate, gradient pleats form the bodice and waist. The sleeves sit slightly off the shoulder to frame the décolletage. An interior boned corset bodice that is fully lined supports the bust. A hand tacked zipper closes the side. The interior is composed of a heavy horse hair lined silk taffeta under skirt while a secondary layer of silk sits under the pleated exterior layer. 

The exterior of the gown is flawless, it appears to have never been worn. No signs of wear to the underarms. No rips, stains or tears. The interior lining has some holes in the silk simply from age and storage. Not visible at all when worn. See pictures for full condition report. A worthy investment piece that rarely comes to market. Perfect for a bride that dreams of a haute couture gown or a collector or museum.

Condition: In overall excellent condition, exterior is excellent and without any noticeable flaws. Interior silk organza lining has small holes throughout. The silk taffeta underskirt is backed with sheer silk organza that has small holes. These are not visible at all when worn. Structurally sound and very wearable. Please see included pictures. Wears and presents beautifully.
