Museum Quality 1920’s Couture Evening Dress By Sadie Nemser Midnight Garden Black Silk Velvet With Ribbon Flowers / Small
A B O U T
Museum quality and exceptionally rare 1920's silk velvet couture evening dress by legendary designer Sadie Nemser. Renowned for creating exclusive and painstakingly detailed couture dresses for a small clientele of wealthy socialites, celebrities and even a stylish First Lady. Grace Coolidge wore a Nemser Original crimson red silk velvet flapper dress for her husband’s inauguration in 1923. Her pieces rarely come to market and it is virtually unheard of to offer up a pair at the same time. This is a collector's dream opportunity to own a "holy grail" item.
This one of a kind couture dress exemplifies what makes Sadie Nemser dresses so sought after. Influenced (I suspect) by the work of Boué Soeurs in France who also used silk ribbon flowers in their creations. Composed of luxurious silk velvet, this halter style gown features an open back, dropped waist and antique lace skirt. Painstakingly adorned with hand crafted ribbon silk flowers and trimmed in glass beads. Tiny gelatin sequins suggest sprouting buds while the cornflower blue silk grosgrain ribbon frames the bodice and trims the opening of the skirt. The under skirt is silk velvet and is fitted. The dress has snaps up the side and slips on over the head. The under skirt is fitted while the outer layer is full. It really is one of the most spectacular dresses I have ever seen.
This dress is in excellent condition with very little in the way of flaws or damage. I have included detailed photographs that represent the condition report. There is one repair in the lace skirt that is not noticeable unless laid flat and examined closely. A couple tiny pin sized spots on the blue ribbon. A small smattering of tiny faded spots on the left side of the waist, that appear have formed from prolonged contact with the beading while being stored. Only visible under close scrutiny and not noticed when worn or displayed. Needless to say, she wears and presents beautifully. Structurally sturdy and completely wearable. Remarkably clean and preserved.
