A rare and extraordinary example of 1920s luxury, this evening coat by Rutledge of Pittsburgh captures the elegance and craftsmanship of the Jazz Age. Fashioned in a luminous champagne-toned silk brocade woven with an elaborate paisley and floral motif, the coat embodies the refined opulence characteristic of the era’s finest outerwear.

The design features a sumptuous fur collar, cuffs, and hem—likely natural red fox—adding depth and drama to the softly tailored silhouette. The sleeves are gently gathered at the shoulders, creating a fluid line that accentuates the coat’s graceful drape. Down the front, a row of ornate, hexagonal metal buttons—each intricately cast with grapevine motifs—serves as both closure and embellishment, lending a jewel-like quality to the piece. Inside, the coat is fully lined in silky champagne satin and finished with meticulous hand-stitching, complete with a small gathered interior pocket—a hallmark of bespoke tailoring from the period.
